Importance of Fasting

Fasting is a practice which provides numerous benefits to individual including fat loss, sugar control, cleaning of digestive tract, removal of toxins etc. Navratri falls in between two seasons; it is a time where transition is occurring in season which affects everything in nature including our body. Because of changes in nature our body undergoes disturbance in homeostasis (balance of food, water, air intake; digestion & excretion). Observing fast during this time helps body to maintain homeostasis with ease.

Types of fasting

You can choose the type which can suit to your lifestyle.

1.       Intermittent fasting

2.       Fasting with preferred grains (Avoiding certain grains)

3.       Fasting with liquids (avoiding food items)

4.       Omitting both food & liquids

Scientific facts about fasting

1.       Light food intake for period of week or more puts Digestive system on rest thereby detoxifies the body.
2.       Grazing throughout the day increases the circulating insulin level in the body. Observing fast & eating only 2 meals / 4 meals a day helps to diminish the insulin level. With decrease in insulin level there is good control over Diabetes, insulin resistance and on thyroid hormone.

3.       Calorie restrictions help body to burn stored fat for energy resulting in fat loss.

4.       More intakes of fruit + veggie & reducing grains increase the alkaline ph in our body. Alkalinity prevents our body from diabetes, heart disease and from virus attack.

5.       Successful fasting increases your ability to decide anything & amend the same.
