Thandai Recipe - Simple & Nutritious

Traditional drink for maha-shivratri & holi festival, thandai is easy to prepare, refreshing drink for summer, loaded with nutrients and MUST HAVE for occasion of Holi. There are ready to make mixtures for thandai in market but none of them can beat the taste of homemade drink. 

Thandai has got popularity due to cannabis however it is optional to add cannabis to thandai, or we can say there are many varients of thandai, one without bhaang second with bhaang and addition / subtraction of certain seeds & spices makes the another varient of thandai. The recipe mentioned below is without bhaang.

Ingredients

§  3 tbsp. Almonds

§  2 tbsp. Pistachio

§  1 tbsp. Cashew nut (optional)

§  4-5 raisins (optional)

§  ½ tsp. white til

§  1 tbsp. Garden cress seed

§  2 tbsp. fennel seeds

§  Few threads of kesar

§  1 tbsp. Gulkanda / pan

§  1 tbsp. of Rose water

§  2-3 tbsp. of sugar / stevia

§  2 glasses of chilled milk / coconut milk

 

Method

1.       Soak almonds + pistachios + garden cress seeds + fennel seeds in a glass of water for 5-6 hours, can soak overnight.

2.       Early morning grind them all into smooth paste.

3.       Boil & cool the milk with required amount of sugar or stevia for calories watcher, flavor it with gulkanda & rose water.

4.       If you do not like the taste of gulkanda, you can simply add pan flavor or 1 tsp. paste of pan.

5.       The final step is to add the paste into the flavored milk and mix it well.

6.       If the paste is not smooth enough to mix with milk completely then you can sieve it.

7.       Garnish the drink with dried rose petals, kesar & crushed pistachios.
