Management of Fever with Diet, Yoga and Positivity

 What is fever?

Fever is an elevation in body temperature about the normal which may occurs due to Exogenous and Endigenous factors

Causes

·       Endigenous factors: Antigen antibody reaction malignancy and graft rejections

·       Exogenous factors: Bacteria or fungi

Development of fever due to exogenous factors is shown below

 ·    Infection due to bacteria or fungi activation of phagocytes in the bone marrow

·    Release of pyrogen ( fever inducing hormone)

·    Synthesis of prostaglandin

·    Thermoregulatory center in the anterior hypothalamus

Increase in temperature (raise in body temperature above 99.5° Celsius should be considered as fever. Temperature until 99° is normal).

Types of Fever

·       Short duration fever: Cold, tonsillitis, influenza, typhoid

·       Chronic fever: Tuberculosis

·       Intermittent: Malaria
Coronavirus is a sort of influenza fever

Metabolic changes in fever

·       An increase in metabolic rate amounting to 13 % for every degree Celsius in the rise in the body temperature (7% for each degree Fahrenheit); and increase is also due to restlessness and hence a greatly increased calorie need, rest is required.

·       Decreased glycogen stores and decreased stores of adipose tissue, increased catabolism of protein places an additional burden upon the Kidneys Accelerated loss of body water going to increase perspiration and excretion of body waste

·       Increased excretion of sodium and potassium

Management of fever

Management of fever includes adequate rest, balanced diet, sufficient water, medicines and yoga.
Management of fever through Pranayam

Diet

One should avoid ‘fat loss diet’ at this time to meet body requirements of nutrients as the metabolic rate is high.

 Diet plan for Fever

Water

To keep body temperature normal and to avoid dehydration, one needs to include 4 to 5 liters of water on daily basis. Water should be divided throughout the day in Limited amount.

Water intake guideline:

Have one bottle of regular water at room temperature when you wake up, people who are constipated can drink lukewarm water instead

20 minutes after breakfast one glass

 1 glass before lunch

After lunch one glass

2 glasses of water 20 minutes before exercise

During the workout sip water but do not gulp ( no cold water only normal water )

2 to 3 glasses after workout

1 glass before tea time

1 glass before dinner

After dinner 1 glass

Half glass before sleeping

Medicines

Before consulting your doctor try some home remedies for flu in early 2-3 days of fever. Instead of going for any anti-pyretic drugs simple take vitamin C supplements known to fight infection thus helping to reduce symptom of fever.

How much vitamin C should you take?

Yoga

Basic rules to start express start yoga

Rule 1: Wear the right clothes, preferably loose clothing

Rule 2: Don't exercise for more than half an hour at time of fever

Rule 3: Always stretch before and after exercise How To do simple stretches

Rule 4: Beginner should take guidance before starting

Rule 5: Don't work out with the air condition on a lot of people underestimate the importance of sweating while exercising be it any form of exercise like yoga aerobics or anything else. With exercise body temperature raises & gets warmer while room temperature is cool. There is sharp clash in both temperatures which causes prevention of sweat and toxin release from body as skin is cold due to air conditioning. Practice following set of Asana and Pranayam slowly at your ease, there shouldn’t be any jerk or exertion with the practice.

  1. Cat pose- Place your hand under the shoulder on ground. Your knees should be apart in the same level. Now raise your right leg up straight, without applying pressure on your back, make a major contraction on your butt muscles. Hold this position for 5-10 minutes.
2.      Gomukhasan- Sit on the floor stretching your legs forward. Bend both your knees slightly. Place your left leg under your right thigh, and take your right leg over your left leg making sure one knee is under the other. Now take your right hand behind your back with your palm facing downwards, and place your left hand behind. Try holding both your palms together, making sure your entire back is straight and aligned with your neck. Breath normally once you are in posture. Repeat the same with other leg and hand position. Hold each side for 5-10 minutes.

3.      Ek padasan- This asana is done in a standing position. Place your feet together and raise your hands up in Namaskar position. Now bend forward and simultaneously raise your right leg up straight, making your posture in T-shape. Hold for 5-10 minutes on each side.

4.      Anulom – vilom- Use your right hand to close your right nostril and inhale from the left nostril, then close your left nostril with right hand’s index and middle fingers and exhale from the right nostril. Now reverse the hands and fingers to inhale with the right nostril and exhale from left. This forms the 1 round of Anuloma –vilom Pranayam. Do this for 3-5 rounds.

Positivity in mind is necessary

Notice how media has stopped talking about corona virus ‘’death’’ and shifted to coronavirus cases? That’s because the term cases is a misnomer. Any person who tests positive for coronavirus is now considered a case. So as more testing is being conducted more cases are emerging. Merely carrying a virus without showing symptoms of sickness doesn’t make a case. Media is just creating the panic among public with increased numbers.

Those who tested positive and admitted in hospitals are now coming back to home happily within 7-8 days.

There was time, in mid-April, when the corona virus was killing 1 in 10 people it infected but as the virus lost many of its ‘’gain of function’’ properties, it became far less lethal. This is called host adaptation and it’s a well-known phenomenon in virology.

Now, the corona virus is probably at least two times less fatal, which mean most people who carry it won’t be harmed by it. The vast majority won’t even be symptomatic.

Beware !! bread lovers

Breads are formed with flour, water, milk, sugar + salt and yeast. Yeast is live, single celled fungus. There are about 160 species of yeast and many of them live around us. Yeasts are dormant until they come in contact with warm water once they are activated, they start feeding on sugar present in flour and release carbon di oxide that makes bread to rise. Yeast also adds distinctive flavors and aroma to bread.  Micro-organism in bread Contamination or poor handling of bread can lead to grow other microorganism that may be infectious. “ Some changes caused by micro-organism are desirable and necessary for making certain kinds of bread but micro-organism through contamination may give deleterious effect on health.
