Traditional Yoga teaches one to express gratitude before
eating food, to eat it slowly with complete awareness and to chew it well. One
half of the stomach should be filled with food and of the remaining half, a
quarter should be filled with water and the balance quarter should be left
empty. Yogic diet do not take calories, proteins, fats etc. in account, the
whole concept of yogic diet is to keep disease free body and vibrating mind
thus attaining Bliss easily.
Wrong eating habits can lead to imbalance in body which
gives rise to diseases like diabetes, cardiovascular diseases etc.
Traditional Yogic diet categorizes food into Satvic diet,
Rajasik diet and Tamasik diet. Food that is well cooked, sweetened, lubricated,
easy to digest which satisfies one’s hunger and taken after offering it to
lord, that food increases purity, sense of truth and light in one’s life are
considered as Satvic Food.
Eating food which is bitter, sour, pungent, salty or hot,
oily, food obtained after killing creatures of earth, garlic, asafetida, spices
are considered Rajasik Food, they are tough to digest and increases aggression
in mind. Unwholesome and disproportionate diet thus Keto diet are rajasik diet
also Gym diet which stresses you to have only proteins in all meals are under
this category.
Tamasik Food are stale foods that is heated over and again
is dry, ready to cook processed foods which has too much of salt or sourness,
this kind of food troubles one’s intestines and digestive organs as they are
tough to digest and assimilate inside the body. This kind of diet increases

body. Many different names of diet you may have come across like General motor
diet, compensation diet etc. are considered Tamasik diet as they will drain
